Suzanne Siskind
M.Ed., Registered Psychotherapist, She/Her
I offer therapeutic support to adults (age 18+) looking to deepen self- awareness, identify and transform outdated patterns and heal emotional pain. I work with a range of presenting issues with a particular focus on symptoms related to mood (such as anxiety, depression and Bipolar diagnosis), emotion regulation, stress management, relationship issues, attentional issues, low self-concept, spirituality (including integration of psychedelic journeys) and parenting issues. My office is conveniently located in Toronto's West end near Ossington subway station.
My Approach
Compassionate, Caring, Collaborative & Client-Centered Psychotherapy
My philosophy of practice is based in the understanding that each individual has access to innate wisdom (also known as the inner healer) that supports growth and healing. My role as a therapist is to guide the self-inquiry process often using meditative processes to help uncover new insights. Our work together may stay focused on present -moment awareness and/or include the exploration of past difficulties. The "goal" of therapy is to process what no longer is needed and to identify new possibilities to live with more vitality, aliveness and authenticity. Applying a caring and compassionate perspective, I draw upon a range of therapeutic modalities to explore lived experience through the body, mind and spiritual domains.
My therapeutic approach is deeply Influenced and enhanced by my training and interest in Yogic Philosophy and Buddhist Psychology. I use a trauma-informed and mindfulness-oriented lens for all therapeutic work and I have completed specific training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), The Hakomi Method and Compassionate Inquiry* (Gabor Mate) (see description below). I have also completed training in Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy (University Health Network) and I have experience using plant medicine for personal healing. I am passionate about sharing new learning and insights with my clients; our work together is customized to fit the needs and interests of each individual.
*Compassionate Inquiry is a somatic-based psychotherapeutic approach that gently uncovers and releases layers of childhood trauma, constriction and suppressed emotion embedded in the body, that are at the root of physical and mental illness and addiction.
